Hello followers and welcome to my blog. So after giving up my flat, selling everything i own apart from pretty much the clothes on my back and moving in with my good friends the 'Millsy's' for the past 5 months I commence on my 6month round the world adventure in just over a month, well when i say 'Around the World' i mostly mean Asia with a little bit of OZ chucked in, hence the title for my blog. It's been a hard 5months since i decided that i was going to fulfill one of my dreams and live out of a backpack for 6months but finally the day of reckoning is almost nie. Feeling a little nervous, apprehensive and also excited, 6months on my own, man i feel sorry for myself, i know i am hard work at times so its gonna be tough on me! Of course, on my own is a slight exaggeration, well come on for those that know me i am well known for being a 'drama queen'.
So 12th August 2011 is the day of departure, first stop Mumbai, India, or for those that are a little older 'Bombay', that's right my friends, Mumbai and Bombay are the same place!!! Back in the 17th Century it was anglicised to Bombay when the British gained possession, however in certain Indian speaking languages it was still known as Mumbai, until 1995 when it was officially changed to 'Mumbai'. I am a fountain of knowledge, not even left the country and providing you with interesting world facts, ( i use the term interesting loosely). If you are still with me, i will en devour to keep my world wide facts to a minimum! So Mumbai it is, I have been told and read many times i am in for a 'culture shock' well its a good thing i am not staying long, only 1 night in fact before i head the following day to GOA. A 11 hour train ride which after researching i decided to book '1st class AC', (AC being Air conditioned) at a cost of 1600 rupees, or to you and me £25, i have had a few digs and jibes for this arrangement as i am told i'm not experiencing the 'real India' and i should have gone 'cattle class', though i see their point of view and should be making most of my trip and embracing the local culture's, after investigation into cattle class, it turns out it is literally full of cattle, cows, pigs, dogs, cats, elephants.. OK, i think perhaps not elephants but you get the picture. So after careful consideration (all of around 2seconds) i opted for the more sophisticated 1st class with AC, i guess i need to be a little careful that i don't get myself branded as a 'flash-packer'.
Anyway I think i have talked enough for my first blog, i hope you all are not bored already and continue to read on and follow me through my travels, i will aim to update everyday however of course this may not be possible and i am afraid people you WONT be my first priority, I just thought if no one actually reads this, is it classed as talking to myself?!?!?!? wish me luck!! Take care all, over and out for now.. Ruffy!
